Production Drama

In Beginning Drama we explore many facets of theatre; From basic theatre games to Theatre History, we go on a wonderful journey through the world of theatre. Beginning Drama is a semester long elective.

Broadway Musical Theatre Group Research Project is one of the most popular projects we do in Beginning Drama. For this project, students will work in small groups (3 – 5 people) to research a specific Broadway musical and create a poster with information to present to the rest of the class.

Radio Theatre Unit is the most unique project we do in Beginning Drama. Radio Theatre strengthens reading skills concentration, diction, vocabulary, critical listening, critical thinking, creative writing and a students' self-esteem. Throughout this unit students learn about the history of radio theatre, explore the career of Foley artists, create sound scenes, radio commercials, and write and perform their own radio theatre stories that we record and listen to in class. This unit is especially fun in the fall semester when we use Halloween as our overall theme.

Drama Escape Room! At the end of each semester, Beginning Drama students take a journey in order to successfully unlock our Drama Escape room. Students work in teams to solve five different puzzles all related to theatre and the lessons we learned throughout the semester.

Production Drama, home of the Drama Hawks, is a yearlong elective for students with a more advanced skill level who want to perform in front of an audience. Students work together to produce the Fall and Spring productions. This class focuses on exploring a range of acting skills, and improving rehearsal discipline. Production Drama also focuses on technical theatre aspects such as lighting design, sound design, marketing and more. We often run sessions after school and do performances on evenings and weekends. If you love to perform in front of an audience, and want to be part of The Drama Hawk Family then Production Drama is the class for you.

All incoming students are invited to audition, as well as current 7th Graders moving into 8th, who are looking to develop their performance experience ready for high school.
